What is a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP)?

Centering care around sexual and reproductive health allows WHNPs to go deeper into subjects we don't always talk enough about.
There are many times when a WHNP can be the right person to see, as we spend most of our lives not being pregnant - and we never age out of being sexual beings. WHNPs are able to offer care for any sex, sexuality, or gender identity.
Reasons to see a WHNP include: birth control, menstrual management, preconception/prenatal care, menopausal care, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), genitourinary infections (like UTIs and yeast), routine care (like Pap testing), gender-affirming care, and sometimes for primary care (like Annual Wellness Exams).
WHNPs are different from Midwives and OB/GYNs because, while providing much of the same care before, during, and after pregnancy, WHNPs do not perform surgeries or deliver babies.
WHNPs are different from Family Nurse Practitioners because of their focus on care related to sex and gender.
Our WHNP at SW Family Physicians is Shoshana Farber, WHNP-BC.
She works at SWFP Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and the last 2 Saturdays of the month. She loves being a WHNP and would be happy to see you and support your sexual and reproductive health in any way she can.
