Jennifer Nieves, APRN, MSN, RN, PMHNP-BC

Jennifer Nieves, APRN, MSN, RN, PMHNP-BC, is a mental health nurse practitioner with over 20 years of Mental Health experience. She welcomes new and existing patients throughout Tigard, Oregon, to Southwest Family Physicians.

Jennifer specializes in caring for PTSD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and other mental health concerns using techniques like medication management, a trauma-informed care approach, and brief psychotherapy. She believes in providing holistic care, addressing emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual needs by looking at the whole person.

Starting her career serving in the US Army from 2001-2005 as a Combat Medic, Jennifer was deployed with the 101st Airborne in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. She was then redeployed in Jan 2002 to support Operation Iraqi Freedom and again to Kuwait/Iraq/Kurdistan in 2003 during the initial invasion as a combat line medic attached to the Infantry, where she was assigned to the front lines.

While serving in the Army, Jennifer gained a passion for helping others manage psychological traumas during wartime operations. In turn, she became interested in providing mental health interventions for patients that focus across the lifespan. She is dedicated to ensuring appropriate treatment is provided and assisting patients in resiliency and emotional well-being to carry throughout their lives.

Jennifer completed her RN degree in Hopkinsville, KY, in 2008 after being honorably discharged from the military in 2005. She returned to Oregon, where she spent time as an outpatient mental health nurse care/case manager working with injured returning veterans in coordinating their care for the War Related Illness and Injury Service Center. Jennifer completed her BSN in 2012 and her MSN for Nurse Management/Leadership in 2015.

Jennifer moved to Southern California in 2016. The Director of the University of California Irvine Hospital urgently hired her as Nurse Manager to oversee both the adolescent and medical psychiatric inpatient units. In 2018, Jennifer became the Behavioral Health Nursing Director at West Anaheim Medical Center, caring for geriatric patients. In December 2019, she moved back to Oregon City as Nurse Manager for the child and adolescent acute psychiatric unit and provided telehealth mental health care in an outpatient setting.

When she isn't busy caring for patients, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She has three children, Matthew (9), Isabella (12), and Jacob (14). She met her husband while on active duty, and they have been married for over 17 years. She enjoys traveling, history, gardening, spinning classes, and watching her children play soccer.
